Built by the UTEP Institute for Applied AI Innovation (AAII), AIREX offers a scalable learning model for academic institutions from all backgrounds. The inaugural partnership between CAHSI and HACU marks the first step in this strategic initiative.
Universities across the country are integrating AI into teaching, research, policy, and operations. But most are doing it in isolation, without a structured way to measure where they are or learn from what other institutions have figured out.
AIREX defines AI readiness through five pillars and four developmental levels, then builds the tools around it: a self-assessment, an interactive atlas of peer institutions, and a shared repository of resources drawn from across the network.
HACU's member institutions are the first cohort: 542 schools spanning community colleges to major research universities across 30 states and territories. That institutional diversity means the framework gets pressure-tested against real differences in resources, governance, and priorities from day one.
